Press Release:
THE SHOWROOM is pleased to present two very different artists with one thing in common... man's best friend. Yes, commissions are available!
PETER NASH worked for twenty some years as a celebrity photographer with clients like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Faith Hill and Julia Roberts. Yet, a more recent "PG13 photography" is the result of having fallen for his true love: dogs. Nash's clean, sophisticated approach to contemporary pet portraiture is truly nurturing of each animal's personality and each owners home environment. Shot in each client's personal space with their own belongings, he offers owner's an opportunity to place their pets on the pedestal (or sofa) that they belong on. Nash displays his understanding of composition, line, texture and light in a way that is both elegant and moving, and perhaps a little humorous.
KATE HOYER's linear portraits of dogs, and the occasional cat or horse, are a striking resemblance of each animals personality and physical traits. Hoyer's use of lines is a result of her interest in what the line represents, whether it be the end of the road or infinity. She applies the latter concept to her compositions in an attempt to capture the inevitable integration of dogs in our society and lives. Her use of color and line is extraordinary, as intended by the artist in an effort to offer something exceptional to an ordinary being. Her portraits are a true reflection of the complex love and loyalty that is so hard to fathom in man's best friend.
