THE SHOWROOM is pleased to announce Paper Trail, a group exhibition featuring works on paper by nine local artists. The exhibition reflects the importance of drawing within the Nashville art scene and how that echoes the dynamic presence of the medium throughout the history of art. Drawing is an age-old tool used to educate, record, instruct, prepare and create. Paper Trail tracks the contemporary use of this important art and highlights the variety of ways drawing is used either as a way to foster ideas or as a finished product. We are reminded that there can be a static quality to the concept of drawing where it begins and ends with the same idea. We are also able to examine drawing as the necessary tool to record what is to become something more complex, or perhaps it will not become anything more at all and we are simply left with a splendid and unique record of thought. Regardless, there has always been a human need to represent or reflect on our surroundings and ideas. Paper Trail reveals the scope of the medium within one show, emphasizing the importance of drawing as a means to render, discuss and progress.
