THE SHOWROOM is proud to present Big Gorgeous Neo- Abstract, an highly anticipated exhibition featuring mixed media paintings by two fabulous artists exploring environments and memories.
We welcome back Pamela Staker who premiered with us exactly one year ago. Her new body of work has maintained its striking contours and exquisite colorful gestures. Although, originally motivated by the human figure, Staker’s colorful narratives have become increasingly abstracted, compositions she refers to as “spatial environments”. She transfers perceptions of places and things from her memory onto the canvas. As a result, the vibrant tension between the planned and the accidental are evident. Staker received a BFA in Painting from the University of Illinois and currently lives and works in Chicago, Illinois.
We are thrilled to introduce Allsion Renshaw and her wildly eclectic mixed media paintings on panel. Renshaw’s chaotic landscapes are informed by particles of our urban landscape such as architecture and fashion. Her acrylic-based paintings are layered with oil paint and magazine clippings, which create formalities similar to James Rosenquist’s compositions and colors. There is an exciting poppy element to Renshaw’s new series of electric abstract narratives; an element not inherent to her earlier works, which were beautifully modern. To engage the viewer in her obvious shift in formalities and influences, the exhibition will feature selected earlier works. Renshaw received a Master of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art and currently lives and works in Encinitas, California.
